Set within the ancient Forest of Kingswood, Oldbury Court has a long and fascinating history, the word ‘Oldbury’ meaning ‘old fortified place’ in the Saxon language.

Join us to explore the labyrinth of paths that are set into the hillside, high above the river Frome. Examine the site of Oldbury House, which was built on the remains of a Saxon hunting lodge. Learn about the Holy Well where medieval pilgrims stopped for ablutions on their pilgrimage from Winterbourne to Glastonbury Abbey. Moving forward in time, visit the grotto, an architectural feature designed in 1800 by the Landscape Gardener, Humphrey Repton. Take time to explore the pleasure garden and grounds he created. Along the way, identify and learn more about the spectacular trees that flourish in this rich and varied landscape.

This is a must for anyone who shares my love of trees, placed within their historical context.
