An evening circuit of considerable variety, featuring architecture old and new, woodlands and lakes, hidden valleys, cemeteries, and a splendid former railway viaduct to cross.
We will start by exploring a little of the charming suburb of Stapleton before descending to the lovely valley of the River Frome. It’s then on to Eastville via a complex mixture of woodland trails, footpaths and suburbia, briefly observing the former Bristol Lido, followed by a section of the Bristol-Bath cycle path.
We will then suddenly find ourselves high atop Royate Hill viaduct, with terrific views of the local area. We will descend to Greenbank’s large and fascinating cemetery, before regaining the cycle-path and heading for Ridgeway Park.
We will complete our circuit via Eastville Park and its impressive lake, taking a look at the Frome-weir, and returning to the olde-worlde pleasures of our start point. There are one or two short, steep sections.
