An evening circuit of considerable variety, featuring architecture old and new, woodlands and lakes, hidden valleys, cemeteries, and a splendid former railway viaduct to cross.
We will start by exploring a little of the charming suburb of Stapleton before descending to the lovely valley of the River Frome.
It’s then on to Eastville via a complex mixture of woodland trails, footpaths and suburbia, briefly observing the former Bristol Lido, followed by a section of the Bristol-Bath cycle-route.
We will then suddenly find ourselves high atop Royate Hill viaduct, with terrific views of the local area.
We will descend to Greenbank’s large and fascinating cemetery, before regaining the cycle-path and heading for Ridgeway Park.
We will complete our circuit via Eastville Park and its impressive lake, taking a look at the Frome-weir, and returning to the olde-worlde pleasures of our start point.
There are one or two short, steep sections.
