Description
This long (10 miles), but virtually flat walk starts in one of the Steart Peninsula villages, Combwich. Parking should be available in Combwich Pill, near the brightly coloured Combwich Buoy, and opposite Otterhampton Village Hall (GPS 260 423). Otherwise there is street parking nearby.
The sea wall of the river Parrett which flows through Bridgwater, was breached in 2014 with the object of reducing the risk of flooding for 70,000 homes close to the river. As a result Steart Marshes Reserve was created, with paths, bird hides and car parks, administered by the WWT (Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust). Steart’s marshlands attract a large number of birds, especially migrants. Many will have flown away by 4th May, but we will visit one or more of the WWT hides to see what bird life is around.
The route visits the villages of Stockland Bristol and Steart, and there is a lengthy section along the England Coast Path, returning to Combwich.
Meet at Cross Elms Lane BS9 2BP at 9.30 a.m to share lifts. Or meet at Combwich Pill, at 10.45 a.m. for a 11.00 a.m. start,
