Description

A day spent learning basic introductory skills for exploring the countryside.

We will cover planning, navigation, weather, kit, areas and the environment, hazards and safety.

We will learn and practice navigation and some of the key elements of planning a route, as well as demonstrate equipment, and discuss/workshop other aspects whilst on the move or during breaks.

The pace will be moderate with plenty of stops focusing on learning rather than covering distance.

We will stop for lunch!

Please wear sturdy footwear and bring a waterproof and enough layers to keep warm when we stop (based on the weather forecast), a packed lunch and water.

Delivered by a qualified Mountain Leader, Mountain Training Provider and volunteer for the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), we will also introduce organisations which offer further opportunities:
