Description

Enjoy the countryside and beautiful views on this 3 mile walk in the Publow valley.

The walk will take place across the site of Avon Needs Trees’ developing ‘Great Avon Wood’ where we have been planting thousands of young saplings over the last two winters.

See the woodland as it starts to take shape amongst the other habitats at the site: meadows, hedgerows, streams and veteran trees.

The walk will also take in other features of the landscape as it crosses the route of the old Bristol and North Somerset Railway, passes the ancient Publow Oak with its 10m girth, and meets a section of the Wansdyke – a post-Roman defensive structure which used to run for miles from South Bristol to North Wiltshire.

This event is aimed at adults as well as young people who feel able to cover the 3 mile walking route which includes slopes, and uneven ground.

Please be aware that there are no hard-standing paths at Great Avon Wood and we are not able to allow dogs at events, except for assistance dogs.
