Mental Health Awareness Week: 13th -19th May

Home Bristol Walkfest News Mental Health Awareness Week: 13th -19th May

We’re supporting Mental Health Awareness Week which takes place between 13th-19th May, and this year the theme of ‘Movement: Moving more for our mental health’ connects perfectly with Bristol Walk Fest and our sister event, North Somerset Walk Fest as we encourage people to move more!

Physical movement plays a pivotal part in nurturing our mental health, yet many struggle to incorporate it into their daily routines. In support of Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re encouraging everyone to find moments for movement in their everyday lives. Whether it’s a leisurely stroll in your neighbourhood, a dance session in your living room to your favourite tunes, or incorporating chair exercises during TV time – every effort contributes to our overall well-being.

Walking is one of the simplest and most accessible forms of physical activity available. It requires no special equipment or training and you can do it almost anywhere, anytime. It not only improves physical health but also has significant mental health benefits, such as reducing stress, anxiet and depression, plus, it’s a great way to connect with nature and clear your mind.

Some of these walks take place more than once so be sure to check our events calendar here for specific dates.

Bristol Walk Fest isn’t just about walking; it’s about fostering a healthier, happier community. As part of our ongoing festival, we’re conducting surveys to assess the impact of our events and ensure they reach those who can benefit the most. If you’ve attended one of our events you’ll have been given either a paper copy of the survey to complete, or directed to our online form. (Completing the form also enters you into a prize draw to win a £50 voucher from Ellis Brigham!)

Last year’s surveys revealed a promising trend: 59% of participants who previously walked less than 30 minutes a day felt inspired to increase their activity levels after engaging with the festival. We hope this trend continues into 2024!
