My favourite walk: Livvy and Chrissie

Home Case Studies My favourite walk: Livvy and Chrissie

BBC Radio Bristol presenters Livvy and Chrissie liven up the airwaves with their unique mix of fun and banter. When they’re not interviewing celebrities and inspirational guests, they like to enjoy a walk around their home city of Bristol.

Tell us a bit about your favourite local walk and why you love it so much.

Livvy: My favourite walk is down by the river. I love watching the swans and boats, and it’s a walk that gives you a real a sense of Bristol’s history.

Chrissie: The Harbourside has got it all – water, boats, cafés – and there’s always something to look at. I love the houseboats and their pots of flowers.

How long have you been walking there and when did you first discover it?

Livvy: I first discovered it when I moved to Bristol in the 90s. I always wanted to live by the sea and Bristol has its own little sea!

Chrissie: When my children were little we used to come to the Harbourside regularly. They loved exploring the area and so did I.

Who normally accompanies you on your walks?

Livvy: Now that my children are older sometimes I walk with Chrissie, and I often walk with my dog, Charlie Brown, who loves it as well.

Chrissie: Nowadays I usually walk with Livvy after a meeting in one of the cafés, and sometimes I’ll go with my dog, Dylan.

How do you feel when you’re out for a walk? Does it change your state of mind?

Livvy: After a busy day I find that walking by the water, watching the light change as the sun goes down and seeing the boats moving slowly puts me in a place of calm.

Chrissie: It’s fascinating to see all the different sights and imagine what it was like in days gone by. I find that walking there really helps my creativity as well.

Have you experienced any health benefits from walking?

Livvy: If I don’t dawdle and meander I can get a good power walk in, which makes me feel physically fitter, and I always end up in a good mood.

Chrissie: It’s just really good to keep moving and get some fresh air into the lungs and brain. It’s really good for unwinding any stress.

Do you have any particular kit you take with you when you’re walking? If so, what do you take and why?

Livvy: Flat shoes or trainers and if it’s raining then a raincoat and wellies. And I never go without my trilby hat!

Chrissie: I always take some money so I can pop into a café and have a cup of tea!

What tips would you give to anyone thinking about getting into walking?

Livvy: Find somewhere you love to start walking, and don’t feel like you have to walk a really long way to start with – you can build up the distance you walk as time goes by. I always walk further when I’m enjoying myself.

Chrissie: Walking makes me feel fitter and healthier and the further I walk, the better I’m feeling. I’m not talking ten miles here – short walks done frequently work best for me. You have to do it at a pace that is comfortable for you.
